TIGER TINA

Tina is the lead character in a children’s picture book. I’m writing and illustrating Tina’s story. See her tail? Looks cool right, but it really gets in the way when you play hide-and-seek, she’s always the first to be found. But sometimes a really long tail exactly what you need! I love hiding little stories within my stories. In this illustration are some caterpillars and ladybugs. Working on the pitch for this book as we speak (read: while I write and/or while you read) but if you’re interested in working with me on this book, please contact me.

PUGSY & ROBIN WISH YOU A HAPPY BIRTHDAY

PUGSY & ROBIN WISH YOU A HAPPY BIRTHDAY Pugsy & Robin made you something … The pug and the bird are so happy with what they’ve created. The detail of crayon on the floor in Robins favourite colour makes it even better, like there is a story waiting to be told. This illustration was made as a happy-birthday card for my Etsy shop. But it is available for licensing, just contact me!

FREE HUGS

Lettering is something I have always loved. Now I combine lettering with my other passion; illustration. This piece of a monster giving free hugs was born from the question what I miss most during lockdown. It turned out I missed hugs the most, but any physical contact. The touch of a hand on a shoulder used to bring solace, now people jump back as if I am the disease. I have several RISO prints left. Contact me if you are interested.

BETERSCHAP | GET WELL SOON

A FAMILY OF FOUR FOXES

We’ve never met a family of four foxes, we have met two. On separate occasions. On a hiking trip, on a trail in the Italian side of the alps, we encountered a fox. My son still hates that fox. It stole his peanut-butter-sandwich, he was forced to eat cheese instead. Now he loves cheese sandwiches … On another hiking trip, in the dunes near Amsterdam, we spotted what the locals call the backpack fox. It was a young fox attracted by the sounds from backpacks, if you bring an almost empty box of tictacs, you will surely encounter this fox. It will sit and pose for photos. I would love to meet a family of four foxes one day. It was the poses of the last fox that brought back the memories of the first cheeky little fox that inspired this illustration, born in the car on the way back home.

A FAMILY OF FOUR SWANS

A family of four swans floating. A beautiful swan, with her youngsters. when I was young, my mother, who can only draw ducks and square cats taught me how to draw a duck. By starting with a 2 and I soon discovered this trick also applies to swans. Now, almost 50 (half a century), years later I still use this trick. This is probably why most of my swans can only swim in one direction. With this illustration I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and made one swim the other way … An illustration like this family of four swans, would work well in a counting or family board book. This illustration is available for licensing, please contact me for more information.

A FAMILY OF FIVE CATS

A family of five cats is a personal project. This is an illustration from memory. If you wants to see your cat dizzy, make him chase a knitting needle that you use to draw in circles round your cat, first slowly, to entice the cat to follow. Then faster and faster. When you stop your cat will not be able to sit or walk straight. Writing this down I realise I might me more of a dog person. The wallpaper is what my memory says is the pattern of my bedroom walls growing up. Might be wrong, cause they were covered by posters. A family of five cats living in my childhood bedroom.

PLAYING CARDS

PLAYING CARDS a personal illustration project Making my very own illustrated deck of playing cards as a personal project has been on my wish list a very long time. I taught my son to play cards during his little sisters swimming lessons. He loved it, now, almost 18, he still does. It’s something we do together, even while eating out in a restaurant … we love playing with this deck! This project was a fun challenge, the first two sets were a breeze! But then i got hit with wave after wave of doubts, my foxes and hippo’s just weren’t working. I paused the project … Then, I finally gave myself permission to change my mind. no more hippo’s and foxes, but tigers and brown bears. In no time I managed to finish the my playing cards a personal illustration project. Sometimes you just have to get out of your head and follow your guts!   I would love to illustrate another card deck … interested in working with me on that? YAY! please contact me! Also, I have a couple of decks left if you would like to own one (or two) let me know.
