AMAZING WOMEN | MARIE CURIE

Marie Curie has conducted research in the field of radioactivity and received a Nobel Prize twice! It was very special for the time in which she lived that a woman did scientific work and became a professor (at the Sorbonne in Paris). Chemistry Marie was born in Poland in 1867 (her maiden name is Sklodowska) and wanted to study chemistry. She was an exceedingly attractive woman, a delicate blonde with fair, blue eyes,” burbled a New York Times profile from 1903. She moved to Paris, where she met her husband Pierre Curie, they have two daughter’s. Radioactive radiation After studying at university, she conducted research into radioactive radiation. That had just been discovered at the time. For this work, Marie, together with her husband Pierre, received the Nobel Prize for Physics. Later she also discovered two radioactive substances: radium and polonium. Marie Curie died in 1934 from leukemia, which she most likely developed because she was exposed to radiation so often during her work.

THE ENCHANTED APPLE

Currently I’m taking the MATS ICB class. This course is all about illustrating childrens books. I love every second of it. Choosing a text to do was difficult, because all three are amazing. Zoë Tucker wrote three lovely texts to inspire us. This is my character sheet for the enchanted apple. When class is over I will also work on the other stories. But for now, please meet Moose, Racoon and little Pica. They are about to go on an adventure!

You may have spotted my hugging friend Hugh before. I drew him while doing the illustration bootcamp from Make Art That Sells. I love him, had him printed on a RISOGRAPH machine. But he was a bit static, so here is an entire character sheet with nothing but hugging Hugh goodness!

LITTLE LADY SEWING SET

My Toy Pitch week 4 | Play sets My toy pitch week 4 already. This week is Playset week. I chose to go for a new (human) character in my Playset. People scare me -a lot- but i went for it and i would like you to meet Zola and Zoey (which mean calm and life) I went for a sewing set. Every set is a bag with a doll (Zola or Zoey) and fabric and sewing-kit to make her outfit. A top and pants. This sewing set comes with a book with the patterns and a step by step tutorial of how to make the clothes. Only one book, so there are 2 tops and 2 pants in the book and enough fabric to make one set. I am really happy with how this turned out and would love to own a set (or both)! Next step is to make a proper pitch, research toy companies and actually pitch, pitch, pitch!

LILLY & LYNN

My Toy Pitch week 3 | Characters I really loved this week. We had to make characters. I totally forgot to look at the moodboards that Lilla Rogers provided in the course, but i can’t love Lilly & Lynn more. Look at those adorable rope arms and legs. And did you see the outfits? I need way more plushy cuddly sheep in my life.

MEMORY MATCHING GAME

The final assignment of bootcamp 2021 from ‘make art that sells’ was to create a front page for a pitch for a memory matching game. I love this assignment so much. It was a joy from beginning to end. My theme was animals with horns. And i couldn’t stop. I made a full set with 24 different cards. I even had them printed and have enjoyed playing it with my kids! Lilla Rogers always says to draw with joy, this was done just like that! My favorite is the Rhino. He is the biggest lump of cuteness ever!
